Located to the south-east of the department of Ain, in the Bugey valleys in the area surrounding Belley, Cerdon and Montagnieu, the vineyard of Bugey, with its Gamay, Mondeuse, Pinot Noir, Poulsard, Chardonnay and Altesse grape varieties, stretches out over 500 hectares. Its vines, which grow on sun-kissed stony limestone and morainic hills, produce white, rosé and red AOC wines, as well as sparkling white and rosé wines. While Red Bugey is an ideal accompaniment to meat, game, cured meats and cheese, White Bugey is ideal with fish, frog's legs and soft cheeses, and Rosé Bugey with grilled meat and salads. Sparkling Bugey, preferably served chilled, is delicious with aperitifs or desserts.

To find out more about Bugey wines, head to the Caveau Bugiste in Vongnes, with its slideshow about the vineyard and the different stages of the wine-making process and its museum of wine-growing traditions with its collection of old tools and wine-producing and growing objects.
