Cultivated in Alpes-Maritimes since the first half of the 15th century, the Menton lemon is one of the most famous in the world. In 1928, the town and nearby area even became the biggest lemon producers on the European continent!
This very fragrant, 100% French citrus fruit is very popular in cookery, used simply for its juice or for its zest. Ice cream, cake, accompanying fish… the Menton lemon adds flavour to all dishes with its tangy but pleasant taste.
Every year in late winter, the Menton lemon festival welcomes thousands of tourists from all over the world who come to enjoy the festivities. It lasts for several weeks, and every Sunday you can admire a parade of floats on the Promenade du Soleil. Every year a theme is chosen, and the various floats are adorned with the most beautiful citrus fruits. You can also watch confetti being thrown, brass bands, dancers and folk groups.
