Originally from Haut-Rhin, the Munster Valley tart is a very popular dish in the region. It features on the traditional cowherd's menu on farms in the Vosges massif.
Traditionally, the Munster Valley Tart is made of puff pastry, minced pork (generally neck meat), egg, milk roll, milk, onions, butter, garlic, salt, pepper and nutmeg. All the ingredients are blended together and placed on the tart, then the whole thing is covered with puff pastry moistened with egg yolk.
This tart goes very well with a green salad and a Pinot noir or Pinot blanc form Alsace.
