The Arrémoulit refuge from the arrival station of the Train d'Artouste

• The end of the lake

• Impossible to get lost on this hike: from the arrival station of the Petit Train d'Artouste, the route is particularly well signposted. And for good reason, this yellow and red train, created in 1924 to transport the men and equipment needed to build the hydroelectric network of the Ossau Valley, carries an average of 100,000 tourists a year! The walk begins with a climb on a path where a staircase is in some places dug out of the rock, so that we reach the dams of Lake Artouste quite quickly.
• A balcony trail runs along the lake on the right side. It offers a pleasant panorama on the lake while guaranteeing safety by its facilities, including railings. We walk more or less flat to the end of the lake

• The Arrémoulit refuge

• Place now at the steepest part of the hike. The path begins to climb towards a beautiful waterfall. It is advisable to stay on the path so as not to miss the fork located a little higher.
• Turn left towards Arrémoulit lakes. The climb continues on a well-marked path, in the middle of a grassy and rocky landscape, to the refuge located in the center of a network of lakes. Arrémoulit refuge, open from June to September and managed by the French Alpine Club (CAF) of Pau, is a refuge of high mountains planted at 2,305 m of altitude.
• For seasoned mountaineers, it is the starting point for some climbs such as Palas or Balaïtous. It also allows to join the neighboring lake of Arrious by the famous and vertiginous passage of Orteig, to reserve for the more adventurous!
• The return is made by the same route. Count 1h for the descent.
