The name "Raoul" comes from Rollon, who received these lands in 911 from Charles the Simple. Rollon would have turned into ROL, RAULT, RAOULT, and finally RAOUL. But it was the Gosselins, Rollon's companions, who administered the commune for several centuries. A hamlet is still called "Mesnil-Gosselin." Related: St John the Baptist Church (11th and 14th century) with its retable and carved beams. The listed lime tree, planted under Henry IV near the church.
