Ercé by Liffré: The Rotes of the Huguenots

Depart from the town of Ercé-près-Liffré, latitude 48.2559800 (N 48° 15’ 22”), longitude -1.5168900 (W 1° 31’ 1”)

• Departure from the town hall square

• of the Cultural Centre (former stagecoach relay) in the Town Hall Square. Walk down Illet Avenue to the bridge and continue the RD92 for about ten metres. Go left on the GR 39 (red and white marker).

• Bon Air

• At an intersection, cross to continue on the paved track in front. Pass the place called Bon Air, former post office on the road to Mont-Saint-Michel. Take a right (yellow marker) to the St. George's Road Cross, built in the 16th century, on which are two carved masks.

• RD 92

• Cross the RD92 and take in front of the path on the edge of the forest of Haute Sève.

• The Jubauderies

• Cross the Jubeauderies forest road and continue to the forest edge. This part is a wetland (possibility of passing inside the forest so impassable).

• The Moreaugarde

• At about 750 m, take a right the path that leads to the hamlet Of Moreaugarde and follow the road to the intersection.

• La Lande d'Ouée

• Cross the road and take the path in front lined with ragolles and tall stem trees. This path offers a beautiful panorama of the bocager landscape, the valley and the village. Follow the creek of the Lande d'Ouée to the road. Take a right (yellow mark-up).

• The Edge

• Walk past the Castle of the Edge, which was a mecca of Protestantism from 1563 until the abjurations in 1701. Turn left to find Illet Avenue.
