The Pombie Refuge

Depart from the town of Laruns, latitude 42.8151573863 (N 42° 48’ 55”), longitude -0.4181489446 (W 0° 25’ 5”)

• The Senescau hut

• Go up the track that goes towards the green circus Anéou. Signs recall the regulation of the National Park, including the ban on access to dogs. The trail crosses a first bridge towards the pastoral center visible from the start. Before this large hut, a sign indicates to leave the trail for a path to the right which passes in view of a small hut and which leads quickly to the cabin of Senescau where you can buy cheese in season.

• The neck of the soum of Pombie

• This is where the climb really begins. The route draws some laces in the middle of the grass and... blueberries! It takes quite quickly altitude, remaining in view of the road and the old border with Spain. Cairns indicate the path, very well marked, which crosses streams. Ossau's peak of the south is more and more visible, until it offers the entire granite face from the Pomme Soum Pass

• The Pombie Refuge

• It is now enough to follow the well-marked path to the refuge of Pombie that we see at the foot of the huge scree coming down from the Ossau. The refuge overlooks a small lake with emerald waters full of fish. You will meet mountaineers preparing for the ascent of Ossau. Perhaps the occasion to evoke this mountain with two main peaks, nicknamed Jean-Pierre, with reference to the names given to the eldest and the youngest in the Béarnaise families to respect the balance between the church of Rome and that of John the Baptist. Unless it is by misappropriation of the expression "stone giant"? Your turn to judge !
• The return is made by the same route. Allow about 1h30 to return to the car park.
