Itinerary

In Villeneuve-les-Corbières, facing the school, take the path to Pech de Grill, surrounded by some vineyards surrounded by the scrubland. Turning back, one enjoys a superb view of Villeneuve and Cascastel, and their vineyard which extends to the foot of the surrounding hills, covered with oaks and strawberry trees.

After 1 km, the path gives way to a steep path, often hidden by tufts of rosemary, and mediterranean plants undemanding, which cling on the stony slopes of the Balansa site. The Virgin of the Récaoufa appears, placed on a tower erected in 1869, destroyed by lightning in 1972, and restored in 1975. It was for a long time a place of pilgrimage where the inhabitants of the surrounding villages asked for protection of the territory and more frequent rains for improve their crops.

From the top of this hill, a beautiful panoramic 360 ° on the surrounding villages, and the wooded hills is offered to the hiker. On a clear day, we can distinguish the Mediterranean, so close as the crow flies.

The return can be done by the same path or by another path lined with oaks and heathers, to reach the D205 linking Villeneuve to Embres.
