The lake trail follows the lake for 29 km but with the several side paths the walk is about 50 km long. A few footbridges enable the crossing of three of four peat bogs. Not shown on the map, in the centre of the lake is Vassivière Island, which is a 4-hour walk. There are a few animals there, an art centre, a place for refreshments and a documentation centre with information about the dam and the hydroelectric plant.

From Beaumont-du-Lac town hall, take the only road towards Châteaucourt, then Nergout. The starting point is at the car park in Nergout at the panoramic viewpoint over the lake.
The shore paths are 29 km long, but in total, the lake's surrounding paths offer about 50 km of trails. To complete the walk, you just have to stay close to the lakeside.
