Nestling in the Upper Chevreuse Valley Regional Nature Park, on the edge of the Rambouillet national forest, the former Cistercian abbey of Les Vaux-de-Cernay has been a charming hotel and restaurant since 1988.
At the heart of a romantic park, next to a legendary forest of 1,000 hectares including a peaceful lake, stand the remains of the 12th-century abbey church. This remarkable architectural ensemble reveals to visitors the superb Monks' Hall with its rib vault, the reading gallery, the mill, the chapter house and the dovecote, as well as St. Theobald's fountain and its miraculous water which, legend has it, made the Queen of France fertile.
The Park offers various itineraries for visitors to make the most of this exceptional setting which combines nature and heritage. And for those who want to know more about this prestigious estate, which has been a listed Historic Monument since 1994, guided tours are organised at 3 pm every Sunday.
