Things to see and do

Built at the start of the 20th century, the Château de Doux was strongly inspired in its architecture by the style then used in Deauville. Installed on the top of a valley, it was intended to serve as a luxury hotel. Outside, one can discover simple windows, a large arched bay with stone braces or even a casement window. Inside, Art Nouveau reigns, especially with the woodwork. Internment center for Jewish families during the Second World War, it is used today as a place of luxury accommodation and is not accessible to visitors.

While passing through Altillac, be sure to admire the exteriors of Bra Castle, Rholan Castle, Bichiran Castle, Gary Castle or Sugarde Castle.

Two churches are visible on Altillac, starting with the Saint-Étienne church erected in the 16th century. Listed as a Historic Monument, it reveals a 14th century bell tower and a Romanesque baptismal font, a heavy black marble basin supported by lions. Do not miss the Sainte-Agathe de Fontmerle church with its fountain.

A neolithic dolmen in good condition, the Domaine de la Borderie is also visible in the town.

Events and festivities

At the beginning of August, Altillac celebrates with a garage sale, a pétanque competition, a festive meal, a ball or even a fireworks display.
