Athis-Mons is a town of Île-de-France that takes place in the department of Essonne, a dozen kilometers from Paris. Located about eight kilometers of Evry and ten kilometers from Palaiseau francilienne city was born of the merger of two rural villages, Athis Mons and in 1817.
Populated long the site has revealed traces of dwellings from the Neolithic and a Merovingian sarcophagus. It was not until the nineteenth century that the city of Athis-Mons know an important population and economic development. Built in the seventeenth century, the Castle of Athis is now occupied by the school St. Charles. Listed historical monument, the building still has a beautiful over twelve hectares. Situated on the site of a former mansion of the fifteenth century, the castle has hosted since the mid-nineteenth century preparatory classes at the military school of Saint-Cyr.
The Saint-Denis was founded in the course of the twelfth century. Repeatedly reworked in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it still has some parts of the Romanesque style, as the bell tower. The latter was listed building. The facade has meanwhile been redone in neo-Gothic style of the nineteenth century.
The current Athis-Mons town hall occupies the buildings of the former castle of Avaucourt, built in the late nineteenth century. It sits atop the hillside of the Seine valley, offering a nice view of the city.
In the old village of Bergen, one can enjoy the barn of the old manor farm with a framework dating back to the fifteenth century.
The banks of the Seine, arranged at different locations, offer interesting walks. It is no less than sixty-four hectares of green space, including the Avaucourt park or the park Ozonville. With the hillside vineyards, this is a sensitive natural area.
The house in the suburbs and architecture traces the history of the flag, while the Delta museum on the airport, traces the history of the aircraft of the same name.
