Village in the foothills of Cézallier installed on the slopes of the old volcano of Montfouat. From this highest point at 1035 meters, a range of landscapes open up to you, with a view in the distance of Livradois, Cantal and the Natural Park of the Auvergne Volcanoes.
Montfouat was strongly eroded by Quaternary glaciers. Between 4.5 and 4.7 million years before our era, its eruption caused a basalt flow which filled the first valley of Bave and by reversing the relief formed the plateau of Gray where it is today so pleasant to walk. This casting can be observed as far as Chadecol with its famous basalt organs.
