At the beginning of the 16th century, a first castle was built on the lands of Rentilly; it will undergo destruction and reconstruction to take the appearance of a castle in the Italian style in 1780.

Among the owners who have left their mark in the field, Isaac Thuret, who acquired the estate in 1819. Under the influence of the Thuret family, the estate takes a significant growth and a remarkable turning point in its development.

If the external appearance of the castle does not change, the interior is completely altered. Mahogany, white marble and bronzes are appearing. The estate is endowed with works of art, paintings by Dutch masters for the most part, but also watercolors painted by Henrietta van de Paadevoort (Madame Thuret). The estate reflects the wealth of the Thuret family.

In 1846, the André family (founders of the Jacquemart-André museum) bought the estate and Rentilly became, thanks to them, a sumptuous estate. Expansions of the castle begin upon the acquisition of the estate by Baron Ernest André; the castle is elevated and wings and turrets are added. The castle which until then was of Italian style takes the appearance of a castle of Louis XIII style. The development continues in 1865 with the construction of the mirrors-basins of the perspective to the French. The André family broke away from the estate in 1890 to benefit the family of Menier chocolatiers.

The Menier build three pavilions at the gates of the estate between 1896 and 1910; the one close to the gate of honor is of Louis XIII style, that being located near the common is of Norman style. Turkish baths were built in 1891 and the trophy room, which adjoins them, benefits from the know-how of the Eiffel workshops for the metal frame.

On August 21, 1944, the castle is set on fire. It is rebuilt between 1953 and 1954 on the bases of the old. However, it will not be identical, the new building is much less impressive and less sumptuous. For nearly a century (from 1890 to 1988), the estate of Rentilly is part of the heritage of the Menier family where generations succeed.

It is in 1987/88 that the area of Rentilly becomes property of the Public Establishment of Development of the new city of Marne-la-Vallée.

More than ten years later, the Communauté de Communes (then agglomeration) of Marne and Gondoire bought part of the estate, starting in 2001. Since 2002, a vast program of rehabilitation, both natural areas and built heritage, is implemented to give the area of Rentilly the face it has today.

In 2006, the renovation of the orangery, the former stables, the trophy room and the Turkish baths gave birth to the Rentilly Cultural Park, an anchor of culture in Marne and Gondoire. The Cultural Park is part of the project of Marne and Gondoire territory to make culture a strong and unifying element among its inhabitants.

The year 2011 marks the beginning of the renovation of the castle in a place dedicated to the exhibition of works from the Frac Ile-de-France collection and invited collections, devoting the project of Xavier Veilhan (realized in collaboration with the architects Bona-Lemercier and scenographer Alexis Bertrand). The castle was inaugurated on November 22, 2014 by Fleur Pellerin, Minister of Culture and Communication, and in the presence of Michel Chartier, President of the Agglomeration Community of Marne and Gondoire.
