Charming town of Charente-Maritime, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, L'Houmeau takes place at the gates of the very touristic town of La Rochelle, opposite the no less famous Ile de Ré. It is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, near Marsilly, Dompierre-sur-Mer or Rivedoux-Plage.
Ancient, the city of Charente has known human occupation for many centuries, as evidenced by the remains found on site during archaeological excavations. However, it was not until the 10th century that this multitude of hamlets merged into a single village, ancestor of the city we know today. L'Houmeau developed thanks to its port and to an important commercial activity, before becoming a high place of tourism in Charente-Maritime thanks to its authentic charm and its architectural heritage of great interest.
