Capital of the headquarters and the furniture, Liffol-le-Grand is a commune of the Vosges, in region Great East. It is located on the edge of the Haute-Marne, not far from Neufchâteau, and about forty kilometers from Chaumont.
The municipality of Liffol-le-Grand has always been in the past an important town with a great economic activity. In Antiquity already, she had developed a craft activity thanks to the presence of lime kilns, potters' ovens or tiled ovens. Destroyed and ravaged during the Thirty Years War, the city has rebounded, becoming over the centuries a high place of wood manufacturing. Even today, Liffol-le-Grand hosts internationally renowned furniture and seating factories. The headquarters of Liffol obtained a PGI in 2016.
Full of charm, the town also has an interesting architectural heritage to discover the time of a stay in the region.
St. Vincent's Church features a 13th-century bell tower. This former defense tower was part of the fortified church destroyed and burned in the fifteenth century during the war of succession of the Duchy of Lorraine. The choir was rebuilt shortly thereafter, while the nave dates from the first half of the 19th century.
Built in the middle of the 16th century, the Saint-Vincent market hall was restored in the second half of the 18th century. Its old frame has been partly preserved in the current building. On the facade, above the basin, you can admire a statue of Saint Vincent.
The archeology museum, located on the Joinville road, presents all the elements found during excavations on the prehistoric and Gallo-Roman sites of the town. We can discover seasonal exhibitions, as well as rooms dedicated to the Paleolithic and Mesolithic sites, the Flavian period, during the Antonine era, and the old Liffol of the Middle Ages.
While strolling, do not miss to appreciate the former wash house and the Fraichefontaine abbey.
To enjoy the landscape, head to the Vergères Park, not far from the archeology museum. Games for children are installed there, and it is possible to use the chalet for meals.
Hiking trails also allow you to cross the communal forests.
