The commune of Montvalezan is located in the heart of the Haute-Tarentaise massif, in the department of Savoie. The municipality is made up of 44 hamlets, it has nearly 700 inhabitants in the year and 11 000 tourist beds on La Rosière. For many years, the most lively village of the commune, especially on Sunday, was the chief place. It houses a parish complex consisting of a tower, a cure and a church. Classified as Historic Monuments, the tower was built in 1674. It was an outbuilding of the Hospice of Petit-Saint-Bernard, frequented temporarily by the canons.
The 14 chapels of the commune constitute a recognized heritage, witness of the past. They were built by the ancestors in thanksgiving for a grace received or simply to express their faith, to speak about their life, their sufferings and their hopes.
The commune of Montvalezan is also home to La Rosière, a family ski resort offering an incredible panorama of Haute-Tarentaise and Espace San Bernardo, a Franco-Italian ski area with more than 160 km of slopes.
