Originally the village was called Monsigny. Until the Treaty of Saint Clair sur Epte signed in 911 by which Charles the Simple, King of France gave Normandy to Rollo. It is from this treaty that became Neuf-Marché Monsigny, which means "New works, new frontier," the Epte River is the border between the Duchy of Normandy and the kingdom of France.
Two important events took place in the collegiate Neuf-Marché: August 31, 1158, marriage of Margaret of France, daughter of King Louis the seventh with Henry of England, second son of King Henry Plantagenet, in July 1160 confirming the election of council Pope Alexander the third and setting aside the election of the antipope Victor IV.
Saint Germer was born in the hamlet of Vardes 605. He is the founder of the neighboring abbey of Saint-Germer-de-Fly.
