Chief town of canton, the municipality of Péronnas is located in the department of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. City of the urban unit of Bourg-en-Bresse, it takes place not far from the city, to the limits of Montagnat, Servas or Saint-Denis-lès-Bourg.

Occupied in large part by the forest of Seillon, green lung of the city, Péronnas is appreciated for its greenery, as much as for its authentic charm. Labeled flower city and rewarded with two flowers in the contest of towns and villages in France, it is also known for its typical Bressanne cuisine based on chicken with morels, and Bressannes cakes.

Its proximity to Bourg-en-Bresse and some of the most beautiful tourist sites in the region make it an ideal place to spend a few days of rest.

Things to see and do

Listed as a Historical Monument, Saix Castle is a 13th-century former castle. Reworked several times, it still reveals parts dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth century.

The town also hosts on its territory the castle of Vernée nineteenth century, and the castle of Bécassinière the same time.

The forest of Seillon is an ideal place to discover the local fauna and flora, as well as the pleasures of hiking. It covers more than 600 hectares and can admire the remains of the Carthusian monastery of Seillon, a former Benedictine priory of the twelfth century cited in the novel by Alexandre Dumas, The Companions of Jehu.

Events and festivities

The Christmas market is held every year in December. A craft market is also organized in mid-May.

In April, place at the cycling race Le Bisou.

In June, Péronnas en Fête is the occasion to attend a parade of funny bikes, a bicycle race, a contest of miss or a dancing meal.

In October, the teasing evening unveils the history of corn around a festive and lively meal.
