Small town Landes located on the road to Vézelay the Camino de Santiago, Roquefort should not be confused with his famous namesake of the Aveyron. In the center of the country Albret-d'Armagnac, near Mont-de-Marsan, this fortified village was founded in the tenth century.

Charming, Roquefort is surrounded by forests of pine trees everywhere, offering perfect settings for hiking or mountain biking. Ideally located, the town can appreciate the wonders of the region, like the vineyards of Armagnac country located next door.

Roquefort has a rich architectural heritage of the largest, including its beautiful church fortress that overlooks the river and dominates the town of its golden freestone. Difficult to resist the many charms of this city where everything and where the heritage beauty is revealed through the streets of the old center.

Things to see and do

Listed historical monument since 2007, the arenas of Pines is no shortage of interest. Inaugurated in the early 1950s, they were built on an old wooden amphitheater. Since their opening, they regularly host landaises, or Spanish races as novilladas not pitted. The most important feria City Roquefort takes place during the patron saint festival in mid-August.

At the original Benedictine priory of the twelfth century, the St. Mary church was converted Roquefort regularly until the seventeenth century. Changed into a fortress during the religious wars of the sixteenth century, it has a particular architecture, with a square tower to tower. You can still see some remains of the Monastery of Poor Clares and the Franciscan convent in that church classified historical monument.

Located near the ruins of the old cemetery, St. Radegonde source has a miraculous reputation, particularly to relieve rheumatism. The main miracles take place, according to tradition, the feast day of the saint, August 13.

Events and festivities

City Roquefort no lack of interest, particularly regarding its events regularly proposed.

A food weekly market takes place on Saturday mornings from 8 to 13h. In summer Roquefort also provides a market for local producers. A Christmas market animates the city in December.

Between 14 and 19 August, the city of Roquefort organizes an annual feria, when the patronal feast. On this occasion, the town offers especially in the arena, a cavalcade, games, novilladas, or an interesting pedal car racing.
