Saint-Avertin

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Indre-et-Loire

Green city and flowered city, Saint-Avertin enjoys a privileged position at the crossroads of tourist routes of Touraine and the Way of Santiago de Compostela. On the banks of the Cher, it is a welcoming and authentic city that awaits you. The history has not been tender with her since the village of yesteryear was burned in 1356 because of its bridge over the Cher. Rebuilt, the village then flourished in agricultural activity and the surrounding fields lend themselves largely to the exploitation of crops. Then, the territory sees crops give way to residential housing and Saint-Avertin becomes a holiday resort, totally losing its initial agricultural vocation.

Things to see and do

Among the must-sees of the city, you can not miss the castle of Cangé built in the thirteenth century. Passing successively from the hands of lords into the hands of lords, it has come down to our days without much damage. Completely renovated, it now houses the Municipal Media Library and is home to many events in the castle itself or in its extraordinary garden. During your walk in Saint-Avertin, you will also have the opportunity to cross the manor of the Grand'Cour, the manor of Paradis, the castle of Beaugaillard, the manor of Sagerie, the castle of Camusière and the manor of Gougets. The church of Saint-Pierre, too, will not fail to retain your attention with its nave of the XIIth century and its choir of the fifteenth century.

Called the Green Coast, the banks of the Cher invite you to stroll in a natural quiet and sunny. La Coulée Verte, meanwhile, crosses the city in a maze of parks and gardens, true festivals of colors for the eyes. You will not be able to leave from Saint-Avertin without having visited the sources of Limançon. These galleries dating from the 15th century supplied water to the population.

Finally, the sportsmen will appreciate the various sports complexes present in the town. Foot, athletics, judo... all disciplines are available. A pétanque court and tennis courts are also available. You choose !
