Hilly rural town of about 680 inhabitants, located beside the Vézère, the western edge of the Massif Central, 6 km from Uzerche, 35 km of Tulle (east), 50 km from Brive (south) and 55 km from Limoges (north), Saint-Ybard is easily accessible via the A20 (exits 44 north, 45 south) and by line POLT (Uzerche station).
Known since the beginning of the tenth century in his parish of Saint Ybard name (of Eparchius périgourdin monk living in Angouleme in the sixth century), the town has kept many traces of ancient occupation: tumulus Montfumat the Vernouille... Gallo-Roman constructions in the town.
Part of the Viscount of Limoges, Saint-Ybard in the eleventh century under the leadership of the family Perusse des Cars, the different branches to succeed Garaboeuf and Vernouille until the eighteenth century. During the Revolution, the castle was demolished, only remain a part of the walls and the pond.
