Pretty town in the Loire, in the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region Sorbiers takes place about ten kilometers from Saint-Etienne, on the dividing line of the Atlantic-Mediterranean waters. It is not far from Saint-Chamond, La Tour-en-Jarez and Fontanes.
Populated since Gallo-Roman times, as evidenced by the remains found there, the territory of Sorbiers developed mainly in the Middle Ages, especially for limit between the rights of the Count of Forez and the Archbishop of Lyon twelfth century. The original agricultural town, the town is then shown in the production of lime or coal mining.
