Things to see and do

Vénissieux ancient town which has expanded significantly in the last century, has several interesting sights.

The old town hall was built on the foundations of the Maison Commune. Ranked in the inventory of Historic Monuments, this eighteenth century building is today the municipal museum of Resistance and Deportation.

Also listed as a historic monument, the Saint-Germain church is the oldest building in the city, thanks to its chapel of the Virgin dating from the fifteenth century. Inside, visitors can admire an eighteenth century crucifix and a painting of Saint Germain l'Auxerrois eighteenth century with a gold frame seventeenth century. Nearby, the Church of St. Joan of Arc Parilly, nineteenth century, is also classified.

Walking through the streets of Vénissieux, visitors enjoy the charm school groups and Louis Pasteur Parilly classified historic monument as remarkable buildings of the postwar period.

French automotive cradle, the city houses the Berliet museum with collections of old but also modern vehicles.

Listed building, home of the People built just after the Second World War now houses the center of the unions, a theater and an exhibition hall.

One can admire a remnant of the ancient castle of Sandier, pond, in the current Louis Dupic park.

Events and festivities

Vénissieux is the scene of a large number of cultural and sporting events throughout the year.

Several markets take place in Vénissieux, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday mornings. A Christmas market also takes place in December.

For July 14, Stopovers Vénissieux offers its holiday season with free concerts, fireworks, picnics and entertainment.

In September, instead Nuits Métis and their frenzied entertainment.

The vénissiane stride is a foot race of 21, 10 and 5 km which takes place every November.

On the evening of December 7, Vénissieux holding its celebration of solidarity, a prelude to the Festival of Lights in Lyon, nearby town. For the occasion, the city offers entertainment, parades of lanterns and the presence of Father Christmas-Secours Populaire.
