The Natural History Museum of Blois, in the Loir-et-Cher, was created in the 19th century by a local learned society.
First installed in the bishop's palace, it has been housed since 1983 in the former Jacobin convent, some of whose buildings date from the 13th century and are as such worth a look.
The collection fund brings together stuffed animals, fossils, herbaria and minerals, rare or common, from the region and around the world.
The establishment offers a permanent exhibition, "Le Blaisois, crossroads of natural regions", which highlights the ecological and geological diversity of the territory and the banks of the Loire.
The museum also offers temporary exhibitions to present its various collections and exhibitions of photos and drawings.
A special effort has been made to ensure that the museography is playful and interactive so as to interest all audiences, especially children. The museum also schedules guided field trips, conferences, events and has a large documentation center.
