Small village of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region, Briollay takes place about fifteen kilometers from Angers and its famous castle. It is located in the heart of Anjou, on the banks of the Sarthe and Loir, not far from Cheffes, Corzé and Montreuil-sur-Loir.
Briollay goes down in history thanks to Foulques Nerra who built a fortress there on a rocky outcrop at the end of the 10th century. The latter was definitely destroyed in the 12th century by Geoffroy Le Bel, Duke of Normandy.
Focused on agriculture for a long time, the town has particularly distinguished itself in the culture of flax and hemp since the 19th century. This economy remains very present in the 21st century with the production of several AOP or IGP such as Anjou Gamay wine, cider from Brittany, beef from Maine, poultry from Ancenis or even eggs from Loué.
