Chasse-sur-Rhône

Charming, small town Chasse-sur-Rhône is the venue of beautiful buildings to discover during quiet walks.

Now incorporated in a local town hall, the bell tower of the old church is the only remnant of the chapel of St. Martin. Built in the tenth century, it was dismantled and taken to the United States in the late 1920s for the pleasure of the heiress of a railway magnate. The Historic Monuments label now prohibits such practices for many French monuments.

Dating from the eleventh century, the washing of Chasse-sur-Rhône should soon benefit from restoration. Dating from the same time, St. Martin fountain is one of the key monuments of the town.

Walking around, one can also admire the bridge of Givors and Chasse, or a beautiful water mill now disused. The wells now used for decorative purposes beautify the city, like the white stone or Grosse stone installed by the end of the nineteenth century.

Hikes are possible in the valley of Gorneton where one indicates the presence of the Grand Duke Owl. Several marked trails are proposed for walkers of all levels.

A regional produce market is held every Tuesday morning.

Organized by the school of music of the city, the festival Musi'Colors puts forward the current music. It is held every year in April.

Art Nature Trail of Gorneton: biennial event, MJC Chasse-sur-Rhône and Seyssuel organize a residence of artists on 6 days on a hiking trail around the Gorneton stream. The artists will have to create, each one, a work using for a part at least, materials found on the spot. Artists who work directly on and in the wild must put their work into the environment, in harmony with the wilderness of the place.
