History :
In 616 Chérisay is mentioned for the first time under the name Charisago, in Carisiaco in 838: the name is derived from the Gallic Carisius which means cherry (hence the name of its inhabitants: the carisiens or charisiens, same pronunciation). But his story begins probably well before that because archaeological excavations have revealed the existence of occupation from the Gallo-Roman era. One imagines the whole point of this little village with its strategic position on a hill overlooking the plain of Alencon and possessing its own source. In the Middle Ages, cherries grown in the territory of Cherisay were very popular in the market of Alencon.
Soon this village specializes in growing grain and the craft of weaving. Besides at least three flour mills have been identified and several looms. With the rural exodus, the population still cease to fall.
