Seaside resort of the Manche, in Normandy, Donville-les-Bains takes place about fifty kilometers from Saint-Lô, on the border of the very famous city of Granville and its carnival. It is located by the sea, about thirty kilometers from Coutances, Avranches and Villedieu-les-Poêles.
Populated since the Gallo-Roman era, as evidenced by the remains found on the spot, the town of Donville-les-Bains becomes property of the monks of Mont-Saint-Michel in the first half of the eleventh century. Originally a small village of laborers and fishermen, it has a golden age in the twentieth century, becoming a seaside resort in 1962. Still today, it is very popular with visitors for its authentic charm, its endless beaches and its many leisure activities.
Built in the first half of the nineteenth century, the present church Saint-Clair takes place on the remains of an old building of the twelfth. Although it has not received worship services since the late 1950s, it is open to the public at certain times of the year, including concerts and conferences. Not far, it is possible to admire the fountain Saint-Clair who would have, according to local legend, hosted the prayers of Saint Clair himself.
Strolling along Donville-les-Bains, you can see the Acute Stone with a spearhead and which is the oldest monument of the town, or admire the old fisheries and the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes built in 1958.
But it is mainly for its landscapes that the town of Donville-les-Bains remains popular with tourists. Here you can enjoy a beautiful beach of three kilometers, as well as a dike 700 meters in length. Strolling along the cliffs, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the Chausey Islands, as well as the coast of Granville in Coutainville.
On site, activities abound including tennis courts, a bowling alley, a reservoir of sea water, shooting contests, fishing on foot on the beach, fishing competitions on the municipal water., a thalassotherapy, hiking trails, or schools of kayaking, windsurfing, sand yachting and catamaran.
