Hudimesnil is a commune in the Manche department, in the Normandy region, 10 km northeast of Granville.
Its 16 km² territory is discreetly hilly but very green, made up of meadows (61% of its area), cultivated land (31%) and a few wooded areas…
This rural environment conforms to tradition bocagère du Cotentin is coupled with a proximity to the beaches of the coast and especially the seaside resort of Granville.
Historically, the village developed after the year 1000 as the seat of a small seigniory belonging to Raoul de Fougères. It was William the Conqueror who offered him the village and the land to thank him for his participation in the Battle of Hastings.
Nowadays, the town, which has just over 900 inhabitants, highlights its living environment and its leisure offer. No wonder that several campsites are located there, between land and sea!
In terms of heritage, to mention first, the Notre-Dame church which dates mainly from the 15th century but which was remodeled in the 19th century. Note its choir and bell tower with defensive parapets. The nave, for its part, was rebuilt in 1837. It should be noted that several polychrome sculptures have been preserved, including a beautiful statue of the Virgin and Child from the 17th century, a preaching pulpit of noble workmanship, in sculpted oak from the 18th century, and finally a chalice by the goldsmith Alexis Porcher, also from the 18th century, classified as an object. Finally, the stained glass windows made in the 20th century by renowned masters representing in particular the adoration of the Virgin and Child by Joan of Arc and Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
An old mill used to grind wheat, whose big wheel is still in operation, on the edge of the Cours du Boscq, to the south of the village, and the Sainte-Suzanne chapel, to the south-east, are also worth seeing. The latter dates from the 16th century and has been successfully restored thanks to the dedication of an association of enthusiasts.
As far as leisure is concerned, right in the center of the village, a 3-hectare pond bordered by meadows and playgrounds is ideal for relaxing in a soothing setting... Not accessible to fishermen (who can practice their hobby along the small streams that dot the territory), the site lends itself to walks and the observation of a rich biodiversity.
