Gonfaron is a commune in the Var in Provence-Alpes -Côte d'Azur. This town of just over 4200 inhabitants lies against the hill de la Roquette, at the foot of the Massif des Maures. Full of charm, this Var city offers a typical architecture of the region and a beautiful heritage.

City Gonfaron is famous for its famous legend of the flying donkey, tied to the patron saint of the city, St. Quinis. Throughout the city, signs of different stores resumed this local figure, as well as local associations.

Former property of the French Provence returned during the fifteenth century, Gonfaron or Gounfaroun in Provencal, is today a popular tourist city for its location and for the beauty of its streets.

Things to see and do

Gonfaron at the foot of the Maures, has an architectural and historical heritage of some interest.

Erected in honor of the patron saint of the city of Gonfaron, St. Quinis chapel was rebuilt many times over the centuries. The present building dates from 1849 and features typical architecture of this part of southern France. Visitors can also enjoy the beauty of the Immaculate Conception Church, inaugurated in 1865.

Not far away, the clock tower with its bell tower dates from the mid-nineteenth century, while the church of Saint-Jacques of Cagnosc still present a section of wall dating from the eleventh century.

Head observation station and protection of turtles and their environments, the turtle village attracts many tourists every year. This zoo, established in 1988, aims to promote the protection of the famous Hermann tortoise. One can see such a clinic, hatcheries, nurseries or filled pen turtles. In recent years, the park also hosts a large number of exotic turtles usually entered when customs controls.

Gonfaron offers throughout the year interesting entertainment and full of life.

Gonfaron The market is held every Thursday morning.

An autumn fair is held every year in October on Victory Square, and the city hosts a plant fair in May.

Every year in March, Gonfaron offers its famous festival of the ass. On this occasion are offered a parade of majorettes, bands or a touring company, and rides on a donkey, creative workshops or a craft market.

In May, time to party the book Gonfaron. In the program, meetings with authors and publishers, workshops, debates or exhibitions.
