Le Thoronet is a small town in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur that takes place in the Var department. Located in the district of Draguignan, it is about seven kilometers from Cannet-des-Maures. Surrounded by unspoilt and breathtaking nature, the village of Thoronet also presents a typical Provence flora identified with hills of pines, olive groves or vineyards.

Watered by the Argens, the town is popular for its ancient architecture, especially for its Cistercian abbey of the twelfth century. In the center of Thoronet, limestone buildings, white and bright, give a special charm to the whole.

Lovers of outdoor sports will also appreciate the many leisure options, including hiking or canoeing down for Argens.

Things to see and do

With its Provencal architecture, the town Thoronet no shortage of charm and knows attract visitors from all over France with its historical heritage.

Listed building, the Cistercian Abbey of Thoronet is the main tourist attraction of the town. Built in the late twelfth century, it is one of the finest ensembles of Romanesque architecture of Provence. One can admire the church again, the monks' dormitory, or the carved stone cloisters. The whole stands proudly since major restoration, in the heart of forests of Provence. The site hosts every summer a medieval music festival popular in the region.

Located in one of the oldest parts of the Thoronet, St. Mary Thoronet church was built in the early eighteenth century, have two square towers pierced with loopholes. On the door, you can admire the sculptures of Marius Mullercke representing a minor and a winemaker.

Chapel in the twelfth century, the church of the Our Lady Nativity was enlarged in the late nineteenth century.

Heritage enthusiasts will also appreciate the castle of the eleventh century Envessènes and the castle and the church of the twelfth century Sèguemagne.

Built using ancient techniques, including red brick made with raw earth and lime, the Notre-Dame-de-la-light-of-beyond-all part of the Notre Dame monastery -du-Torrent-de-Vie.

On the territory of Thoronet, visitors can discover many wineries like that of the Abbey of St. Mary Vella or Camparnaud.

Thoronet The market is held every day of the week, in the morning.

From April to July Le Thoronet presents its summer evenings with many events such as concerts, shopping, meals or dancing.

In July, the festival instead of Sleepless in Abbey Gardens with current music.

In late July, up to international meetings of medieval music festival held in the Abbey of Thoronet.
