City of Hauts-de-France, La Fère takes place in the department of Aisne, about twenty kilometers from Laon. Former seat of the Royal School of Artillery, it is located thirty kilometers from Saint-Quentin, not far from Frechancourt.
Considered as one of the oldest cities in the North / East region of France, La Fère already knew a human occupation during the Gallic era. According to historians, the ancient Fara dates from at least the fifth century AD. Theater of many military seats over the centuries, especially during the wars of religion, the town was long famous for its military activity that ends in the early 1990s with the dissolution of the 41st regiment of marine artillery.
