Monistrol-d'Allier

Monistrol-d'Allier is famous for its rich religious heritage. In particular, you can discover the Saint-Pierre church. Auvergne Romanesque style, it was erected in the course of the 12th century and today presents very beautiful polychrome wooden statues.

Set up in the caves of Escluzels, the troglodyte chapel of the Madeleine is accessible via the way to Santiago de Compostela on which you can admire basalt organs.

Erected between the 12th and 13th centuries, the Notre-Dame d'Estours chapel was originally built by the same fellow builders of the choir of Le Puy cathedral. It hosts an important pilgrimage every first Sunday of September.

Dedicated to Saint Etienne, the chapel of Douchanez once belonged to the local castle which has now disappeared. It remains visible, just like the church of Champels. Built in the first half of the 19th century, it hosts a mass every year on All Saints Day.

To take advantage of the surrounding nature, it is possible to take the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage trail. Other marked hiking trails are also accessible.

Pétanque competition, ball and fireworks are offered in mid-July to celebrate the national holiday.
