Small village in Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Monistrol-d'Allier takes place at an altitude of more than 600 m, between two gorges with basalt rocks. It is located about thirty kilometers from Puy-en-Velay, not far from Saint-Privat-d'Allier, Prades or Alleyras.
On the way to Santiago de Compostela, the village of Monistrol-d'Allier takes its name from the Latin, Little Monastery. Formerly occupied by a priory dependent on the abbey of La Chaise-Dieu, it is now popular for its natural beach and its white water sports. The beauty of its Cévennes landscapes and the charm of its architecture make it a holiday resort very popular with passing tourists.
