Things to see and do

The tourist sites to discover are not lacking in the village of Montsalvy, whether from a cultural or natural point of view.

The abbey has vestiges of what was one of the most important abbeys in the region. One can still discover the cloister Saint-Gausbert, a chapter house with a treasure of cantonal art, or the refectory of the monks. The latter shelters a beautiful ogival vault with some sculptures, as well as pretty columns. Also note the present of the chapel of Reclus dedicated to Mary Magdalene, not far.

Bourgeois residence, the castle of Montsalvy still has a beautiful tower built in the 15th century. Although it now houses a retirement home, it can still be admired from outside, including the traces of ancient walls.

The church of Montsalvy has a beautiful Romanesque chevet dating from the 10th century.

While walking in the village, visitors will also appreciate the Tisserand house, a fountain of the nineteenth century, or a beautiful half-timbered house of medieval times. Not far, the watchtower is a house with turret.

In the summer season, the village offers the Catine, a reconstruction of an old Auvergne interior with guided tours.

Events and festivities

Montsalvy The market is held every Thursday morning and Saturday evening in the village hall.

The last Saturday of July, the festival offers Montsalvy baskets with basketry workshops, a market, tastings and animations.

Round of Chestnut Grove is organized every year at the beginning of November. The event program, a foot race in relays, as well as hiking and a trip to the ATV.
