Pierrefeu-du-Var is a small commune in the Var hinterland in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. From the eleventh century, there is evidence confirming the presence of Pierrefeu-du-Var. The village devastated by religious wars settled on the hill of Sainte-Croix in order to be free.
Today it is still on the hill that is the oldest part, called the historic village of Pierrefeu now also extending down below the hill in its modern part. A naval base is located in Pierrefeu base from which the zeppelin "Dixmude" that had been obtained as war damage was high in the air in 1923. It is off Sicily the airship exploded after a thunderstorm. The 50 passengers who were there died instantly. This tragic accident is intimately linked to the history of the town and a memorial was built in the center of Pierrefeu.
The gastronomic specialties of Pierrefeu-du-Var are those that make the reputation of Provence and especially the Var, such as AOC wines but also olive oil, basil, herbs, etc.
