Common Loiret in the region Centre-Loire Valley, Pithiviers is a city of more than 9000 inhabitants in the heart of Beauce. A forty kilometers of Orleans, the city was once known for its food and pharmaceutical economy. Pithiviers also hosted a notorious prison camp during World War II.

The latter is a delicate puff pastry cake filled with almond cream.

Classified historical monument, except his arrow and the top of its bell tower, the Saint-Salomon and St. Gregory church is dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Since 932, it houses the remains of St. Solomon, king of ancient Britain and martyr. Rebuilt during the sixteenth century, the church has undergone successive restorations in the centuries that followed. We can now enjoy classic Renaissance decorations and a beautiful Gothic structure.
Walking through Pithiviers, it is possible to appreciate beautiful monuments such as the castle of the Slate whose elevation, the roof and the building are included in the inventory of the Historic buildings or the remains of the collegiate St. George built in the eleventh century, parts of which are listed on the inventory of Historic Monuments or classified.
Interestingly, the Transport Museum to admire Pithiviers offers several steam locomotives as well as traces of the tramway Pithiviers in Toury.
The abbey of Saint-Pierre, a Cistercian abbey in 1080 and the castle of the seventeenth century Bellecour are the best sights to Pithiviers.

In December, Pithiviers also organizes a Christmas market with many events.
The feast of St. George is held in April with the installation of a large fun fair, a craft market and sales of sweet products.
The Steam festival takes place in June, organized by volunteers of the association of transport museum. Vintage locomotives embark passengers in a touristic and historical route.
Every October, Pithiviers offers pastry festival, sugar and chocolate, with cooking workshops, tastings and other demonstrations of all kinds.
