Charming little village in the Marne, in the Grand Est region, Rilly-la-Montagne takes place about ten kilometers from Reims, famous for its Gothic cathedral, its Saint-Rémy basilica, its large champagne houses, its Art Deco style facades, not to mention its famous little pink cakes...
Considered one of the oldest villages in the Montagne de Reims, 1042 inhabitants currently live there. The drilling of its railway tunnel of more than 3.5 km in 1850 developed the village and many winegrowers drilled cellars in the chalk of its basement. It was also the target of German artillery in 14/18 and English air force, and during the Second World War, the town was also partially destroyed by bombing in 1944.
Nowadays, the commune lives to the rhythm of viticulture, in particular with the production of champagne by the 38 winegrowers, while revealing a charming architectural heritage.
