New commune of Jura, in the Burgundy - Franche-Comté region, Septmoncel les Molunes was born in 2017 from the mergers of Septmoncel and Les Molunes. This charming little mountain village takes place at an altitude of nearly 1000 meters, not far from Lajoux, Bellecombe or Prémanon, on the border of the Ain department.
Originally a large wild forest, the territory of Septmoncel les Molunes developed in the Middle Ages with the first clearings carried out around the 9th century. However, it was not until the 16th century that the town experienced a period of prosperity, in particular with its watchmaking activities which lasted until the beginning of the 19th century.
Today known for its cheese, the famous Bleu de Gex, the village of Septmoncel les Molunes also seduces passing visitors with the authenticity of its landscapes.
