Valenton

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Val-de-Marne

Valenton is a commune of Île-de-France in the Val-de-Marne department. It takes place in the south-east of Paris, not far from Créteil and Maisons-Alfort. Limitrophe of Yerres and Choisy-le-Roi, it is particularly known for its many green spaces.

Formerly a dependency of the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the city of Valenton was born during the 6th century. The center of viticulture in the 13th century, it completely changed the economy in the 18th century to turn to the cultivation of fruit trees and vegetables. It experienced an important development during the installation of the railway in the first half of the twentieth century, thus getting closer to Paris and its activity.

From its rich history, Valenton has preserved some beautiful monuments to discover the time of a visit to the region.

Things to see and do

Walking through the town, you can discover the remains of the ancient castle of Valenton said Castle Tower. From this impressive building, there is still a turret and an eighteenth century gate located in a large communal park.

Located in the center of the floodplain Marne-Seine, the park of the Blue Beach welcomed at the beginning of the last century lands intended for the market gardening culture. Invested by walkers since the 1960s, it was developed by the town in the late 1980s. Original, this park of forty hectares was awarded the trophy landscape in the 1990s.

Appreciated by visitors and architecture enthusiasts, the inter-communal cemetery of the Val-de-Marne unveils in particular at its entrance a set of eleven granite sculptures by Pierre Székely, Garden of the Meditation of the Ages of Life.
