Only 7 kilometers from Paris, Thiais draws the features of its agglomeration in the Val-de-Marne. Depending on the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Thiais acquired its independence in 1250. The village, rather modest, welcomed nevertheless several famous celebrities of the time like Theophraste Renaudot, creator of the Gazette, Charles Collé and the playwright Jean-François Marmontel. The village will quickly take the direction of a residential town under the coat of arms of the Ormesson family. Moreover, from the beginning of the nineteenth century, the professors of the Ecole Polytechnique take the habit of meeting in one of the empire pavilions of the city. Possessing a remarkable historical heritage, the city has preserved it over the centuries and continues to boast of it still today.
