Before designating one of the most famous French airports Orly is primarily a town of Val-de-Marne, in the Ile-de-France. It is located about ten kilometers from Paris in the heart of the Hurepoix, a small French natural area that extends mainly in the Essonne.

Bordered by the Seine, this city of more than 20 000 inhabitants has a certain charm with its old center and its many old stone monuments. If the airport today occupies a large portion of land Orly, the city did not present less great cultural interest.

Charming, pleasant, quiet, the city of Orly deserves a little linger there to enjoy the Ile architecture, and a rich and exciting history. Things to see and do

Unknown because of the importance of its airport, the city of Orly has none less important heritage and full of beauty.

Oldest building in the town of Orly, the Saint-Germain church was built in the eleventh or twelfth century. It is situated in the Vieil-Orly. Destroyed during the Hundred Years War in the mid-fourteenth century, the Saint-Germain church was restored in the nineteenth century to uncover the best of its architecture. One can in particular discover the beautiful square bell tower, the oldest part of the church.

Former property of an illustrious mayor Orly, the castle of Méliès park housed the pioneering film of the same name. It now houses the Georges Méliès school for directors of animated movies and visual effects fakers. In the park, a pond during a pleasant walk.

Nearby, the former castle of Orly Park was created under Louis XVI and still has a beautiful classical architecture.

The hamlet Grignon covers the city of Thiais, but also on the common Orly. It has a beautiful castle which the English park is no shortage of interest with its river and greenhouses. It now belongs to the Fondation d'Auteuil.

Art is honored throughout the city of Orly, including sculptures of Philip Wolf made with old windows of the Saint-Germain church, or a beautiful bronze statue of Henri Cordier. Very original, The Bird Pylon is an Olivier Agid work made electricity pylons surprises in the landscape of Orly.

Events and festivities

The city of Orly offers year-round entertainment and events of all kinds in order to highlight its heritage and entertain its visitors.

Orly the market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5 am to 13h. The city also offers a great Christmas market.

The Junior Film festival takes place every year at the municipal cultural center Orly in February. It offers meetings, screenings and workshops with pus young and their teachers.

In June, the festival of the arts of the street Orly settled in the city center with its many artists of all genres and all styles.

In October, instead of the Festi'Val Marne, organized in several cities of the region. On this occasion, many concerts and entertainment are provided.

The festival tales of Orly, in November, is the opportunity to enjoy stories from around the world declaimed by talented storytellers.
