Located in the department of Allier, Varennes-sur-Allier is a town whose name comes from the Germanic Warron, meaning warren. It is located about twenty kilometers from Vichy-Charmeil and is on the Allier, about thirty kilometers from Moulins.
Remains found during excavations testified of human occupation in Varennes-sur-Allier since Gallo-Roman times. Population of over 3600 inhabitants, the town attracted by its calm, but also by its nature. The greenery and the banks Allier are indeed the charm of this ancient site.
