Since 2007, Les Déferlantes festival of contemporary music has been held for four days in July at Valmy Park, Argelès-sur-Mer. Set up at the foot of the castle in the middle of a pine grove, the festival stage offers a scenic setting which is enjoyed by the audience as well as the many French and international stars who have played there over the years: Jacques Dutronc, Iggy Pop, Suzanne Vega, Mika, Texas, Ben Harper, Olivia Ruiz, Patti Smith, ZZ Top, Fauve, Placebo and many more.
Each day, festivalgoers can enjoy activities at the Roussillonnais campsite, like electro brunches, beach volley and beach rugby tournaments, body painting sessions, aperitifs and dance or relaxation workshops. Since 2013, Les Déferlantes festival has been collaborating with the NGO One founded by Bono, which fights extreme poverty and preventable diseases in Africa in particular. Part of the proceeds from the festival go to support the association.
