The remarkably well-preserved Craon Castle, on Guinefol hill, was built in the 18th century by the Marquis d'Armaillé. Owned by the Count and Countess de Guébriant, this historic monument made of white Loire stone has retained its period features inside: a Louis XVI décor, with beautiful wood panelling, reflecting the atmosphere of the Old Regime... The grand hall and its main staircase, dining room, Oval room and music room can all be admired on a guided tour, available in the months of July and August.

Around the castle, a huge 47-hectare park, which has been awarded the Remarkable Garden label, contains a French-style garden, a 42-hectare English-style park with ancient trees, and a family kitchen garden full of flowers, vegetables and old fruit trees. Stroll through the park and you can also admire a chapel, washhouse and laundry, and a 19th-century icehouse...

The old centre of Craon, standing on the banks of the Oudon, is worth a trip for its timber-framed houses, market hall built in 1850, and its Pré de la Liberté washhouse, which as it turns out is the biggest in Mayenne!
