The Château de Villers-Cotterêts, erected at the request of François I, is the only royal castle of the Renaissance in Picardy. An emblematic site of French history and architecture, it preserves vestiges of its rich heritage. You will discover this cultural place entirely dedicated to the French language and Francophone cultures and will have the opportunity to learn more about this living language in a fun way. You will be able to juggle between the different words of the French language on the different continents. You will be able to explore the exhibition through its many rooms divided into three sections. Among other things, you will find a "magic library" with a personalized reading recommendation given by artificial intelligence, a 360° projection under the dome and a games room. You will have the opportunity to see the ordinance signed by François I in Villers-Cotterêts in 1539, in which French becomes the official language for judicial and administrative acts, before visiting the Royal Chapel, the first in France to renounce the Gothic tradition. Thanks to some sixty innovative devices, documents, objects, and works, you will be able to discover how the French language works, understand the evolution of its vocabulary and pronunciation, the variety of its uses and forms of expression, oral and written, and its ability to reinvent itself.
