Rural town of Yvelines, Ablis takes place in the natural region of Beauce, on the banks of the Rémarde. It is located about ten kilometers from Rambouillet and its castle, not far from Ponthévrard, Orcemont and Allainville.
Occupied since the second iron age, the territory of Ablis owes its importance to its geographical location, at the intersection of the roads linking Orléans and Poissy towards Valois and Picardy and Chartres and Brittany. Property of the castellany of Bréthencourt in the Middle Ages, the town suffered enormously during the Hundred Years War, as well as during the Wars of Religion, despite its fortification. Ransacked and burned by the Germans during the 1870 war, Ablis is however gradually reborn from its ashes to become the pleasant city that we know today.
Mainly oriented towards agriculture, in particular cereal growing, the Ile-de-France city also has an interesting architectural heritage testifying to its rich past.
