Romanesque religious building founded in the eleventh century, the church of Saint-Nicolas-de-Brem takes place on the town of Brem-sur-Mer, in the department of Vendée. Listed as a Historic Monument for its architectural value and the beauty of its style, it is one of the oldest churches in Vendée.
Remodeled in the twelfth century, then poorer in the seventeenth century following the destruction of religious wars, it still has some original features such as its central nave, the apse and the apsidioles.
Considered as one of the most beautiful medieval monuments of the department, the church of Saint-Nicolas-de-Brem presents on its portal, in a triangular pediment, the statue of Saint Nicolas surrounded by several mysterious motifs that could have a Templar origin.
Inside, it is still possible to admire two frescoes of the twelfth century representing the Crucifixion and the arrival of the Holy Women at the Tomb.
