The Saint-Crépin church is located at Château-Thierry, in the Aisne department. Mentioned from the 12th century, then serving the suburbs outside the walls of the city protected by an enclosure, the church was rebuilt from 1487 to 1520 after being badly damaged during the Hundred Years' War.
Late Gothic style, it is a "hall" type church flanked by an imposing bell tower. The choir was rebuilt in the 18th century.
For a time, the church was served by monks from the Saint-Pierre abbey in Chézy-sur-Marne.
Once in the building, which is accessed through a Louis XIII period door, a number of decorations and pieces of furniture can be observed. This is the case of the organ case (15th century, remodeled), the balustrade (16th century) decorated with statuettes representing women symbolizing virtue or pagan figures, the pulpit with sculpted decorations from the 18th century and a number of stone statues due to an artist from the region (19th century). We recognize in particular Saint Crepin and Saint John.
According to some local historians, the current font at the entrance to the church was once a baptismal font having been used during the baptism of the fabulist Jean de la Fontaine, born in Château-Thierry.
Finally, several paintings should be mentioned, one of which is signed by Joseph Vivien (1657-1734) and old copies (17th century).
