Open to the public since September 2010, this museum traces through its eighteen rooms open to visitors throughout the hospital site's history from its founding by the queen of France, Joan of Navarre, wife of Philip IV.
On more than 1500 m² of museographies spaces, one can discover more than 1300 outstanding works of art within spaces arranged in the fashion of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. With twelve pieces classified as an historic monument, these collections reflect the prestigious patronage enjoyed by the Hotel Dieu of Château-Thierry.
This is the death of the last religious augustine back in 1966 that the awareness about the remarkable heritage that is the Treasury of the Hotel-Dieu. The hospital center of the city settled a few years later in a new complex, freeing up space for a museum. The Arts Association and Château-Thierry History was formed in 1992 with the objective to work towards a museum around this heritage. Through the joint efforts of local authorities and many patrons, the Treasury museum was able to open its doors in September 2010.
The site visit is only guided and lasts approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Painting, sculpture, printmaking, pottery, jewelry, textiles, furniture and civil ethnological object... all areas that made the richness of the site are presented.
